KENTUCKY GENERAL SUPERVISION ENHANCEMENT GRANT

Welcome to Early Childhood Outcomes Initiative!ECOI Logo

Welcome to the Kentucky Early Childhood Outcomes Initiative website! This initiative is one of three initiatives with the Kentucky General Supervision Enhancement Grant (GSEG), funded through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. The other two projects include the Early Childhood Transition Initiative and the Alternate Assessment Initiative.

The goal of the Early Childhood Outcomes Initiative is to pilot a process that can help infant/toddler and preschool programs implement a Comprehensive Continuous Assessment System which provides data on the extent to which young children with disabilities are meeting the Kentucky Early Childhood Standards and the national child outcomes proposed for children with disabilities birth to age 5.

Because the state standards and assessment system is currently voluntary, we are working with 3 programs in central Kentucky to help them design or refine their current assessment system to ensure that:

  1. The system is comprehensive and addresses all levels of a continuous assessment system (i.e., screening, diagnostic, curriculum/instruction, and program evaluation);
  2. The system is viable for children with and without disabilities; and
  3. The system provides data on the extent to which children are meeting the state and national standards.
