Course Description: Web
Accessibility and Universal Design of Online Learning Reources workshop
will demonstrate and discuss: (1) How people with disabilities use
assistive technology to access the web and online learning resources;
(2) Review current web accessibility guidelines; (3) Demonstrate
accessible web design practices; and, (4) Demonstrate and discuss
evaluation, repair, and transformation tools useful for Web content
developers and Web users.
Dr. Jon Gunderson is the Coordinator of Assistive
Communication and Information Technology Accessibility in the Division
of Rehabilitation ¬ Education
Services at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and teaches
a course on web accessibility for the Department of Library and Information
Science at the university. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
in Industrial Engineering with an emphasis in Human Factors and B.S. and
M.S. degrees from UW-Madison in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is
currently responsible for computer and information technology accommodation
issues for students at UIUC. He is chair of the W3C User Agent Accessibility
Guidelines working group and has given numerous presentations and workshops
on accessible web design. His current projects include extending the functions
of Internet Explorer and Mozilla to support the needs of people with disabilities
and tools to help people create web accessible versions of Microsoft Office
