Effective Inclusion at the Middle School and High School Level
for Students with Cognitive Disabilities

Dr. Douglas Fisher

Douglas Fisher is a faculty member at San Diego State University in Teacher Education. He is the co-author of Inclusive Middle Schools, Inclusive High Schools, Inclusive Urban Schools, and Improving Adolescent Literacy: Strategies at Work. He teaches courses in curriculum design and modification, literacy instruction, and diverse learners.

Dr. Fisher’s presentation is open to Middle School and High School teams – an administrator or administrative representative, a general education teacher, and a special education teacher serving students with low incidence disabilities.

In the morning Dr. Fisher will focus his presentation towards factors that affect teachers in the implementation of inclusive practices, and how to mange these factors. There will be ample opportunity for participants to discuss barriers to inclusion and how these may be addressed. Schools will identify their progress towards inclusive practice and draft an Action Plan for their school to further this goal.

In the afternoon, Dr. Fisher will focus his presentation towards administrative issues, which will be of interest to all participants. This presentation will be recorded and the recording available for view from the IHDI website.

There will be no cost to attend the presentation but participants will be responsible for travel and substitute costs. Lunch will be provided at no charge.

To complete the online registration go the registration page. For questions, contact Anne Denham, adenh0@uky.edu. Registration will be open to the first 11 school teams that apply. The cut-off date for registration is Wednesday, March 31st.

This promises to be a most interesting presentation and of great value to Middle Schools and High Schools as they work to improve inclusive practices. Register a team soon to reserve a place!
