Alternate Assessment Design

Keeping up with the changing seasons

ILSSA is truly a pioneer in the field of alternate assessment. Since 1990, our staff has been designing, administering, and improving alternate assessment systems across the country. Our extensive knowledge base encompasses every facet of assessment design, from technical adequacy (reliability and validity), assessment formats (performance-based, checklists, performance tasks, portfolios, and hybrids), and standard setting to alignment studies, scoring and reporting, and data-based decision making with a focus on improving instruction. Through our collaboration with national technical assistance and research Centers on alternate assessment, ILSSA will continue to remain on the cutting edge of both classroom-based and large scale assessment for students with disabilities.
