Kentucky Early Childhood Transition Project (KECTP) provides training and technical throughout the commonwealth
to families and professionals interested in early childhood transition evidence based practice, emerging trends and
changing legal requirements.
The project is responsible for implementation of the KY EC Transition Report 2005 which includes recommendations
for implementation at the state, regional and local level. Expected Outcomes:
- Greater public and professional awareness of the need for transition planning
- Establishment of transition supports and resources
- Guided development of state policy related to transition
- Increased recognition of recommended practices in transition
- Increased family involvement in the transition process, and
- Increased number of successful transitions for children and their families.

RESOUCES
KECTP is responsible for the early childhood components of the www.transitiononestop.org and development of materials and
resources to support transition prenatal to six. Resources available but not limited to:
- “Step by Step” A Family Guide for Transition into Preschool (also available in Spanish)
- “Families and the Transition Process: PRIMARY STYLE”
- A Fireside Chat with Kentucky Families – A DVD available to support families in the transition from First Steps to KY Preschool Programs
- The Transition Training Series – Modules developed to support the transition process in communities; preparation of children and their families
- Leadership Training – Modules developed to support interagency groups (state ICC, Community Early Childhood Councils, Preschool Interagency Planning
Councils) in communication, effective meetings, decision making, etc.

KECTP provides technical assistance to regions and communities which includes implementation of the community
transition plan (CTP) process and conversion of the current interagency transition agreements (ITA). Pilot Sites
were selected for initial implementation and a conversion schedule established for current agreements (First Steps to Preschool)
