How to Search Using the
NECTC Transition Literature Database

 

Welcome to the help page of the NECTC Transition Literature Database. This page describes the various components of the database and the ways in which transition information can be located.

The main page of the literature database shows all the documents that have been entered. (Note: the number after Records indicates total number of documents.)

You may search the database using categories (Research, Policy & Practice, and Complete) and/or keywords.

Using Search Categories Only

Search all documents within each category by clicking the appropriate button for

Using Keyword(s)

Enter a keyword or phrase in the box next to Enter keywords, .then repeat the directions above

BEFORE SEARCH

Qualitative accesses those studies that used qualitative research methodology only.

Quantitative represents those studies that used quantitative research methodology only.

Both means that studies will be accessed that used both qualitative and quantitative research methodology in the same study.

 

BEFORE OR AFTER SEARCH: Filter Options

Sort Column allows documents to be sorted by title, author, journal, or popular. Popular is the default sort, which means the best match. To change how documents are sorted, click on the arrow and click on the sorting preference.

Sort Order allows documents to be sorted from the beginning or the end of a list.

ASC means ascending order. This is the default for title, author, and journal so that the beginning of the list of documents start at the top of the alphabet. To begin at the end of the alphabet, click on DESC.

DESC means descending order. This is the default for popular so that the best matches are displayed on the first page. Clicking on ASC would put the best matches on the last page.

Page Size indicates the number of documents viewed per page. The default is set at 20, which can be increased or decreased by clicking the arrow and clicking on the preferred setting.

 

AFTER SEARCH

First indicates the first page of the results. To return to the first page, click on First.

Prev means previous page, which can be used to move back to the last page viewed within that same search.

Next indicates the next page of the results. This is used to move forward to the next page.

Last is the last page of the search results. To quickly move to the last page, click on Last.

To go to a particular page, type the page number in the square next to Move to Page and press Enter.
